I think I'll do something I probably should have done a long time ago. Broaden the scope of what I talk about when it comes to fiction novels and the results of adapting them to the screen.
Come Into My Parlor in both its archived versions and its new live version will remain, if for no other reason than for me to keep a VERY close eye on it. If you do appreciate this nearly two decades long labor of love that is my website devoted to Anne Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels, and I hope you do, I'd love to know it. It does mean A LOT to me.
That particular series of novels are not the only ones I love to read again and again, and in more recent years, see how much or how little of them found their way to the screen. Even if it's not the big screen, novels like the Lives of the Mayfair Witches still have the potential to translate well to the little screen. And hey, I can always resume putting energy into new content for my site as long as I know people are interested.
You'll find the linky-poo for Come Into My Parlor on this blog on the right column.
I also talk about novels I love that haven't been adapted to the screen. If you look at the right column, you'll also find a linky-poo to Shadows in the Midnight Garden. On it are some pages where I talk about a particular novel I read years ago after buying a copy on one of the ebook sites. That was where I learned I could make some annotations that do help with research and stuff.
Now children, busting into my account on that particular site and trying to delete those annotations and replace them with one of your own, the one that highlights two words of text in the novel which say "nobody cares" is NOT appreciated. Did you know there are far easier and LEGAL ways to tell me that? And did you know that going that far out of your way to tell me that actually says the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you think I'm supposed to believe is true?
Listen, sweetheart. This isn't one of those YouTube drama channels where creators rip each other apart and do nothing else. And a message like that left after brute forcing your way into my account and my personal property isn't "free speech". I'll tell you what it is.
It is digital harassment, a violation of my privacy. It is hacking into an account that belongs to me as well as tampering with and defacing my personal property. And, as you will find out or be reminded of should you make it necessary for you to be taught this, it is illegal.
If you have a personal issue with me, if you have a deep hatred of my website about the Mayfair Witches or whatever, it does not matter. It does not entitle you to do such a thing. Not to me, not to anybody. You ever try that again and I will take appropriate action. Understand?
Good.
Now, then.
I have decided I am going to talk about that very book anyway. In fact, I think I'll talk about it a lot. And I'll talk about whatever else I choose. Online. I have First Amendment rights, too.
It turns out my ancestors really did fight in the Revolutionary War so we could sit here and talk about Disneyland. Or Mayfair Witches.
I even said that on the home page of the Shadows website. Maybe I should just move all of its content here instead? And then talk about it some more. And then talk about other novels and adaptations I love. Either way, Come Into My Parlor is still around and belongs to me.
Are we cranky? Yeah. Upset? Yeah. Hurt? Yeah. Curious to find out what other things I could bring to the table that others might enjoy? YES!
But first...I'm hungry.
